Hard night lenses
Night lenses are lenses designed specifically for bedtime wear to correct eye conditions such as myopia or astigmatism. So, over time, you'll enjoy clearer vision during the day without contact lenses, glasses or surgery.
Night lenses are worn by a lot of people all over the world, mainly children and teenagers, who no longer suffer from eye problems as a result of wearing night lenses. So we can say that these contact lenses are beneficial to the eyes and are a good way to keep under control or even cure various visual diseases.
Gas permeable lenses shape the surface of the eye at night. Thus, on waking, a slight reshaping of the eye can be achieved, but it is good to know that the effect is also reversible - not wearing the lenses at night leads to the return to the original shape of the eye in about 3 days. This procedure is also known as Orthokeratology.
To whom are they recommended?
These night lenses are suitable for people suffering from astigmatism, myopia or both, even with higher dioptres, but it is recommended that they are up to -6 and 6 respectively. They are also the perfect solution for those who want to give up wearing glasses and lenses during the day.
Patients should strictly follow their ophthalmologist's instructions, use appropriate hard lens care solutions and have a normal tear film.
Night lenses can also be used by children as long as they are older than 6 years.
How do I know if they are right for me?
See your ophthalmologist and have a full ophthalmological examination. This will assess the health of your eyes and whether or not wearing night lenses is beneficial.
If the doctor recommends such lenses, the lenses with the special shape required for each individual person will be ordered on the basis of the measurements taken.
Check-ups can be carried out periodically depending on the patient's need, but at first they will be more frequent and then less frequent to keep lens wear under control. So the first check-up will be immediately after the first wear, then at one week, three weeks, then 2, 6 and 12 months. The effects can be seen from the first wear, but it takes time for the cornea to stabilise, depending on the initial degree of myopia.
How do I apply them to my eyes?
Wash your hands thoroughly with water and fragrance-free soap before using the lenses.
As with any type of lens, always start with the same lens for either the right or left eye.
Rinse the lens with the hard contact lens solution indicated by your eye doctor and place it on the tip of your index finger.
With the index finger of the other hand lift the upper lid of the eye. Hold the lower lid as well, then insert the lens.
Release the eyelid and repeat the steps for the other eye.
How do I remove them from my eye?
Night lenses are strictly meant for 6-8 hour night wear, so in the morning they should be removed no more than 15 minutes after waking up.
It is important that the lenses are mobile before they are removed, so if they are stiff on your eyes, pour a few drops of lubricating solution to help remove them.
There are two possible ways to remove night lenses from the surface of the eye.
First method: Gently bend your head forward. Grasp your eyelids with your fingers and open your eyes wide, then bring your fingers together. Thus, apply gentle pressure on the lens and it will come off the eye.
Second method: Bend your head slightly forward and open your eyes wide. Looking straight ahead, pull out towards the outer edge of the eyelids the lens and then grasp it in your palm.
If you try the methods, but still the lens does not come off, then it is recommended to add a few drops of hard contact lens moisturizer.
What should I know about night lenses?
Night lenses have a quick effect on the shape of your eyes, so the results are best seen within a few weeks of wearing them.
It is necessary to wear contact lenses for at least 6 hours a night.
Be careful which hard contact lens solutions you use. Do not use tap water for rinsing solutions!
If wearing make-up during the day, it is advisable to remove it before inserting the lenses in the evening.
After removing the contact lenses from their own case and inserting them on your eyes, empty the case of the substance, rinse it with an ideal contact lens solution and let it dry.
If you experience any discomfort, unpleasant sensations or redness in your eyes, remove the contact lenses and see your eye doctor as soon as possible.
How do I take proper care of my lenses?
Like all contact lenses, they require specific care solutions recommended by a specialist. So cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting lenses can be done with multi-purpose solutions such as MeniCare Plus.
Once a week a more intensive cleaning is recommended for increased wearing comfort, to ensure the durability of the lenses, and such a solution can be, for example, Menicon Progent.
