The clock change effect you don't even think about

The impact of daylight saving time on the human body poses a challenge for many. Besides affecting us in several ways, it also exposes us to more blue light, which has many additional negative effects on us.

What comes to mind when you think of daylight saving time? If we consider the current autumn version, probably a million negative things and only one positive: that we get one extra hour of sleep that night. But besides this, it disrupts our biological clock, for a few days you don't even know what day it is, and the hardest thing to tolerate is that it's already dark at 4 p.m.

It's no wonder you feel this way because the impact of daylight saving time on the human body poses a challenge for many. When we switch from daylight saving time to standard time or vice versa, essentially all that happens is that the clocks need to be set forward or back by one hour. However, this small change has a significant effect on people's biological clocks.

Our sleep habits and circadian rhythms can be disrupted, leading to sleep problems, fatigue, and concentration difficulties. We usually adjust more easily to the autumn time change because with setting the clock back, we get an extra hour of sleep. However, we have to cope with the fact that for most of the day, despite being awake - it's dark.

Besides affecting us in several ways, it also exposes us to more blue light, which has many additional negative effects on us.

Blue Light - Why is it Harmful?

We've written about blue light several times because it's important to understand how the body reacts to it. Blue light is the light emitted by our electronic devices, which sits at the border between ultraviolet radiation and visible light.

The problems it causes are often experienced, but we're not always aware of what the trigger is. Symptoms may include dry eyes, blurry vision, dizziness, and even other pains such as headaches, neck, or back pain. Ultimately, all of this can lead to deteriorating vision, and in drastic cases, even vision loss.

This phenomenon has become so widespread that the set of symptoms has been given a specific name: CVS, or Computer Vision Syndrome, caused by working in front of a computer.

Since we spend less time outdoors during the autumn-winter period, we are even more exposed to blue light from electronic gadgets.
